Academic Realities

Helping students achieve their highest potential

Academic Realities is a leading choice for out of school educational services because of our flexible program design. Our main focus is provide supplemental education opportunities that will help to motivate and enhance students' learning abilities. Our approach is to provide an online courseware system coupled with one-to-one and small group tutoring sessions that will help challenge and engage all students in an effective way. Upon entry into our program we administer several assessments to determine the specific needs of each child and use this information to provide individualized prescriptions for learning. We offer instructional services for students who need to improve performance on TAKS, help with class assignments, or tutorial work to prevent failures in Reading, Math, and Writing. Our services are offered after school Monday through Friday, Saturdays, and during summer and school intersessions.

Tutoring services are provided by and/or under the direction of state certified teachers and/or paraprofessionals meeting the requirements as slated by the No Child Left Behind Act. The exception may be those instructing in advanced mathematics, who must have a degree in math or a related field. Teachers are selected for their expertise and for being passionate, patient, and excited about student success. Most instruction is provided by part-time faculty members, many of whom have full time jobs with the public school system

Our supplemental education services address the No Child Left Behind Act by helping to close the achievement gap and raise accountability. Over the past seven years, we have effectively provided supplementary instruction to students identified as low-achieving, Limited English Proficient, and economically disadvantaged. Using norm and criterion referenced standardized assessments; we were able to conclude that 82.9% of our students demonstrated an achievement gain in reading and math.

We also concluded that 91.7% of our ESL students increased a minimum of one grade level or more than that performed by the student in the previous year as measured by the Reading Proficiency Tests in English (RPTE). The evidence of our success canbe attributed to many factors: Caring staff and instructors, use of state certified teachers to provide individual and small grouptutoring sessions, use of a comprehensive online courseware system that provides self-paced, interactive curricula that dynamically adapts to student needs, and program alignment with Texas state content learning standards and benchmarks.
